SMILE!

Smile!

There was that time when I was tired of being referred to as the younger one whenever I walked with my younger sister. It never went down well with me. I felt belittled and,  downplayed.

I would hear phrases like "Joy, is she your elder sister? " whenever they saw both of us together and I'll be like, "Haba, please allow me to do the introduction na”.

So, on many occasions, before they proceeded to talk,  I would just rush off to introduce myself as the elder one to avoid embarrassment. I was asking myself why this was so. At the time, Jane used to put up a very serious mature look.

So I tried every means to be seen as mature (at least to appear older or more mature than my younger sister). Some said I smiled and laugh too much. So, maybe if I smiled a little lesser I would appear older.  Just maybe.

So I tried to 'bone' my face peradventure I would achieve my aim. But this approach only made me look worse and made people blurt out questions like 'wetin happen? Who dey fight with you? You dey sick? Shey na you spiritual pass?

Smile!

Why are not even smiling while reading this?
Yes you!

Smiling makes you look younger. Don't get it twisted. It is not the definition of spiritual.

It's no crime

It's maturity

It's beautiful

It's an anti-aging make up of life

It's attractive

It can heal a soul

It can encourage and give hope to another

It sends a message to your heart, mind and soul that all is well

You see those rough ugly twists and turns on your face called wrinkles?

Smile suppresses, fights and overcomes them

And when by reason of old age, they come alive,  they tell of beautiful lines that overcame the struggles of life.

Not smiling is not the true test of spirituality

It does not make you holy

In fact how do you tell the gospel of peace with a frown?

Smile!

Research has shown that the benefits of smiling outweighs its disadvantages, that is if there are any. I doubt there is.

So SMILE!
