IRON SHARPENS IRON

*IRON SHARPENS IRON*
Proverbs 27:17

Growing up, I noticed that mum would always strike the edge of the kitchen knife against another sharp edge. When I asked why, she said when the knife gets blunt, you do that to make it sharpen again. One day I saw in the market that people pay a certain man to get their knives sharpened against his steel machine. Interesting!

Today I remember one night in campus we were to have a vigil. While we waited for the vigil to start, I laid down to rest a bit. It had been a stressful day at school. Really, iron sharpens iron (but It's like prayer swallows prayers too o)

As I pondered on how the vigil would turn out, I dosed off.
In my subconscious, I was hearing some mutterings which was increasingly getting me distracted from my sleep.

The prayers from this brother proceeded forth like bomb hitting the corners of the church, ehmmm, no I mean hitting my entire being.😨 These prayer points could never have been formed by the normal human mind, it must have been birthed by the Spirit of God.
So I stood up and adjusted myself on my seat. "This is a prayer vigil, let me also prepare myself for the night in prayers" I suddenly reminded and encouraged myself.

But the more I prayed, the more this brother's prayer was overwhelming.

You know what?  I just gently and quietly submitted to the prayers he was making. I kept saying AMEN, LORD YOU KNOW THESE PRAYERS ARE ALSO MY HEART'S CONTENT. Please answer me too. Plus I really want to pray like this oh Lord!

Or what will I do again? Lol.

Up till date this brother does not know what that night meant to me and believe me the vigil that night was awesome and life transforming.

You see, we never can tell what our presence does to someone else in church. Perhaps its our singing, dancing, attitude, prayers, lifestyle.
Sometimes, we are discouraged not to go to fellowship because of one trouble or the other but we may be the reason why someone else is still holding on.

No wonder the bible says we should not forsake the assembling of ourselves together especially as the day draws nearer. Some do the forsaking and get hurt.

I don't know why this memory popped up now. But I'm sure it's for a reason .
It may not be a church affair, it could be in out daily living with people, friends, family, colleagues, bosses, pastors, neighbours, even strangers. Everyone needs some sharpening at some points in their lives

How sharp are you and how willing are you to sharpen others?
Remember the word is SHARPEN and not SLAUGHTER.
To sharpen is to make better and finer.
This year I hope our words will not kill but make alive, seasoned with grace.

I hope our lives will be a pointer for others to Heaven, to Christ and His Kingdom.

I hope I don't come close to you and become like the sheep for the slaughter because your words and lifestyle is only in the edge to slaughter me and make me diminish.

I certainly hope I don't have that effect on you too.

I hope we will be sharpeners for the best.

God bless us!

Touche! My best friend on Campus was a Deeper Life. He was like a leash. When I wanted to veer off, he would bring me back. Even as at last night, he checked up on me. God bless you Enwuka Ichechukwu (Jega).
