ON DOCUMENTATION (IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING NOTES)
I could cry my eyes out from the thought of several powerful documents, write ups, ideas, songs and thoughts I have lost which would not still come back to me.
These were things that could have made a whole lot of difference for me now. What can I do about them now? They are gone, all lost! Some of these thoughts were carefully written out while others were written in moments of anxiety or excitement with some sort of levity or out of leisure.
Perhaps by now I would have been an author of books, at least I'm sure of a compilation of short stories.
I wrote a story on virtually every topic on WAEC past questions. I remember 'Every cloud has a silver lining', 'look before you leap', 'no shortcut to success'. I wrote 'Too inquisitive' and a lot of others.
Ignorance they say is a disease. It can kill faster than you could ever think. As a growing child, I didn't know that I could keep my stories and pile them up as books that would make a lot of meaning to people both young and old.
I remember dad asking me when he saw one of my write ups, if I actually wrote them or if I copied from someone. Hahaha!
Mum recently reminded me of the short stories I wrote back then. It's quite painful to put in a lot of effort in something and lose everything just because they were not documented. The regret is heart rendering.
I have lost online trainings that I paid for simply because I did not back them up probably on another device or on Google drive. I also did not supervise or check my back up system.
There are some really strong and personal messages I have gotten from God which I cannot remember vividly simply because I never wrote them down or those I wrote and lost.
How can you attend a conference without a plan to document things? Some organisers go as far as providing notepads for participants so that they can write down key points. And you still won't write?
Some people come to a great place like the house of God without pen and paper to note down striking things that God passes across to them as individuals. I understand that you are a machine and you process things fast without the need of a reminder......BUT!
P.S: Humans crash! Their brains too.
Have you ever been to an exam hall where there is pressure to release all that you are so sure you know about but they are not forthcoming? You are sure you know these things but you can't remember them.
I have gone through some things I wrote down years ago and they make even more meaning to me in the present moment than they probably ever did before.
There are also some bible verses that I marked some time ago in my bible but as I look at them now I cannot even remember what exactly God was trying to tell me from that scripture.
Write them down!
There are some strategic prayers I have made but I wish I can remember but I can't. Sometimes you make prayers and don't even take note of them when the answers come through.
Some photos are worth saving. Events and memories that tell of your journey through life, people you have met, places you have been, your highs and lows. Photos tell a lot of stories. Save them!
Like I wish I have more pictures from my childhood.
Technology has made things easier. You don't have to go about with a physical notebook. You can have your notebook on your phone and take notes.
Apps like evernote, Google keep notes, inkpad, etc synchronise with your mail so that even when you lose your phone, you can still have access to those notes.
Avoid unnecessary regrets in the future by leveraging on tools that could help save your documents and thoughts for easy referencing and retrieval.
